The footballer Juan Mata, former SEK-El Castillo student, launches a solidarity initiative

Juan Mata, SEK-El Castillo alumnus, and Manchester United footballer has launched the Common Goal initiative for players from all over the world to donate 1% of their salary to worthy causes.

According to the Spanish footballer, “the purpose of Common Goal is to generate a positive impact on society through football, but the ultimate goal is to ensure that the entire sports industry donates 1% of its profits. One year after its creation Common Goal has raised more than €700,000 and more than half of the money has already been invested in 27 projects worldwide.

The movement also actively collaborates with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals established by the UN. It does so, in particular, with the UN goals of health and well-being, quality education, gender equality, decent working conditions and economic growth, reducing inequality, and peace, justice and solid institutions.”
